Meet Rufina, “Rufi”!  She’s an inquisitive 8 year-old girl who lives in the U.S.A. with her Mom, Dad, Abuela and 5 year-old brother Mateo, who she’s always teaching (and correcting!).  Sometimes Mateo will make appearances in Rufi’s stories along with other members of her family and community.  Rufi and her parents were born in the U.S.A. Her Dad grew up speaking Spanish and English and her Mom learned Spanish in school. Her abuela immigrated to the U.S. from Mexico when she was a young woman.  Rufi and her family speak English and Spanish in their home and love to travel to Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries.  

Rufi likes to ask everyone she meets questions in English and Spanish because she is so curious about the things she tastes, touches, feels, sees, and hears in the world around her!  Mr. O’Keefe is Rufi’s third grade teacher and Carmen is Rufi’s best friend in class.

¡Conoce a Rufina, “Rufi”! Es una niña curiosa de 8 años que vive en Estados Unidos con su mamá, su papá, su abuela y su hermano Mateo de 5 años, a quien siempre está enseñando (¡y corrigiendo!). A veces Mateo aparece en las historias de Rufi junto con otros miembros de su familia y comunidad. Rufi y sus padres nacieron en los EE. UU. Su papá creció hablando español e inglés y su mamá aprendió español en la escuela. Su abuela emigró a los Estados Unidos desde México cuando ella era joven. Rufi y su familia hablan inglés y español en su casa y les encanta viajar a México y otros países de habla hispana. A Rufi le gusta hacer preguntas en inglés y español a todas las personas que conoce porque siente mucha curiosidad por las cosas que prueba, toca, siente, ve y oye en el mundo que la rodea. El Sr. O'Keefe es el maestro de tercer grado de Rufi y Carmen es la mejor amiga de Rufi en clase.
